Every Bandai Box, Checked Inside Before It Ships
One Piece and Dragon Ball boxes are sealed with a single strip of tape — and in Japan, substituted contents are a real problem. We buy these boxes on the Japanese market, and we check what is inside before we take one in: packs counted, every pack seal examined. The tape is cut because we looked inside. Here is exactly what that means.
The short version
- Every box is checked inside at the point we buy it — we buy on the Japanese market, and we do not pay for a box we have not looked inside.
- Every pack counted against the official pack count for that product.
- Every pack seal examined and confirmed as the original factory seal.
- A box that does not check out is not bought — so it never enters the catalogue at all.
- The outer box tape is cut. That is what checking the contents requires.
- The packs inside are untouched — original factory seals, original count, exactly as Bandai packed them.
- If what arrives differs from its description, tell us within 48 hours and we refund in full and pay the return postage.
Bandai boxes are sealed with tape, not shrink wrap. A strip of tape can be cut and replaced, so an intact tape strip tells you nothing about the contents. We would rather hand you a box we have verified than one nobody has looked inside.
Why these boxes have tape, not shrink wrap
Japanese One Piece and Dragon Ball boxes are made by Bandai, and Bandai does not shrink wrap them. There is no shrink wrap at any point, including when they leave the factory — the seal is one strip of tape across the top.
This single fact drives everything else on this page. A Japanese Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh! box is protected by shrink wrap: to reach the packs you must destroy something that cannot be restored. A Bandai box is protected by tape that can be cut with a fingernail and replaced with tape from a stationery shop.
In Japan, retailers also commonly cut the tape themselves at the point of sale, so these boxes circulate in both states. They reach us both ways.

The risk nobody advertises
Substituted contents are a real and widespread problem for these two titles in Japan. Packs are pulled and replaced with packs from a cheaper set. Packs are removed and the box is closed again, short. Packs are opened, and the box is closed again as if they were not.
Here is the part that matters: an intact tape strip is not evidence that the contents are intact. It tells you tape is present. It does not tell you how many packs are inside, whether they are the right packs, or whether any has been opened. No one can determine that from the outside of a closed box — not us, and not any other seller.
So a taped box is the higher risk, not the safer one. A box that still has its tape and has never been checked is a box whose contents are simply unknown. The tape looks reassuring, and that is precisely its danger: it transfers the risk to you, invisibly, and you only discover the outcome when you open the packs.
Every exporter is a secondary-market buyer, including us
Bandai does not supply its Japanese-edition boxes to overseas retailers. Every Japanese Bandai box sold abroad has therefore passed through the Japanese domestic market first — bought here, then shipped out. That is not a disclosure about us; it is how the supply chain is built, and it holds for every business shipping these boxes out of Japan.
We say it plainly because the alternative is letting you assume something that cannot be true of anyone. No overseas seller receives Japanese Bandai boxes off the factory floor.
What follows is simple, and it is the whole reason this page exists. Everyone selling these boxes abroad is handling goods that have passed through other hands, so the risk above applies to all of them equally. The only difference between sellers is whether anyone looked inside at the point they bought it. Few say whether they do. We do, and this page is how.
What we check when we buy a box
So we look inside at the point we buy. Every One Piece and Dragon Ball box is checked at the box level as we take it in, and where the tape is still intact we cut it to do that. We do not pay for a box without knowing what is in it — and the same check that tells us what we are buying is what tells you what you are getting.
Pack count. The packs are counted against the official pack count for that product. A short box is caught here.
Pack seals. Every pack is examined individually to confirm its seal is the original factory seal, with no sign of opening or re-sealing.
Correct product. We confirm the packs are the packs that belong to that box — not packs from another set.
A box that does not check out is not bought. That is the advantage of checking when we buy rather than when we sell: a bad box never becomes stock, so there is nothing to grade down and sell on.
And the limit, stated plainly: we check at the box level only. We do not open booster packs, and we cannot know which cards are inside a sealed pack — no one can. What we verify is that every pack is present, original, unopened, and correct.

Two ways to buy a Bandai box
The difference between a box nobody has checked and a box we have checked is not the tape. It is whether anyone knew what was inside before you paid for it.
| Taped box, not checked | MintBoon | |
|---|---|---|
| Outer box tape | Intact | Cut |
| Pack count verified | Unknown | Counted |
| Pack seals checked | Unknown | Every pack |
| Correct packs confirmed | Unknown | Confirmed |
| Short, swapped or opened packs | Not checked | Checked |
| Who carries the risk | You | We do — we bought it first |
| You find out when | You open the packs | Before you pay |
The left column’s only advantage is a strip of tape.
What arrives
The box arrives with its outer tape cut. Every booster pack inside is in its original factory-sealed state, in the original pack count, exactly as Bandai packed it. Nothing has been removed, substituted, or opened.
From that check until it is packed for you, the box does not leave our hands. We do not re-tape it: the tape stays cut, so the box you open is the box we looked into. Every order is also checked against its listing before dispatch.
And if what arrives differs from its description, tell us within 48 hours of delivery and we refund in full and pay the return postage.
Japanese Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! boxes are different and none of this applies: those are shrink wrapped at the factory, the wrap is the seal, and a sealed box arrives still in its wrap. We do not open them.

Questions
My box arrived with the tape cut. Was it opened?
Yes — and that is deliberate, not a defect. We buy these boxes on the Japanese market and check inside every one as we take it in, because substituted contents are a real problem for these two titles and an intact tape strip is no protection against it. The packs were counted against the official pack count and every pack seal was examined as the original factory seal. The packs inside have not been opened.
Would a box with the tape still on it be safer?
No — it would be less safe, which is why we do not sell them that way. A taped box that has never been checked is a box whose contents are unknown: the tape can be cut and replaced, so it proves only that tape is present. We would rather give you a verified box than an unexamined one.
Did you cut the tape, or was it already cut?
It depends on the box. In Japan these boxes are commonly sold with the tape already cut, so some reach us that way. Where a box still has its tape, we cut it ourselves to check the contents when we buy it. Either way, the box is checked inside before it reaches the catalogue.
Are Japanese Pokémon boxes handled the same way?
No. Japanese Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! boxes are shrink wrapped at the factory, and we do not open them. For those, factory shrink wrap is the sealed state and a sealed box arrives still in its wrap.
Is every box checked, or only some?
Every One Piece and Dragon Ball box, without exception — the check happens when we buy it, so a box that does not check out is simply not bought. Nothing is taken in and sold on at a lower grade.
Do you know which cards are in the packs?
No, and neither does any other seller. The packs are sealed by Bandai and we do not open them. What we verify is that every pack is present, original, unopened, and correct for the product you ordered.
What if the box I receive is short, or the packs are wrong?
Then it differs from its description. Tell us within 48 hours of delivery and we refund in full and pay the return postage. The check at purchase is there so that this does not happen; the refund is there in case it ever does.
What about special or limited boxes that are not covered here?
Some special and limited releases are packaged differently. Email [email protected] with the product name before you order and we will tell you the packaging state of that specific item.
